Golden Boy: Finale Night Review
Yvonne gave an amazing, emotional performance in yesterday’s final performance of Golden Boy. She and Seth had the unfortunate distraction of a ringing cell phone during her signature Act 2, park bench scene, but they never broke character and performed beautifully. Yvonne was extra emotional in this scene than in the previous performance I saw, and it was clear her real emotions were coming out during the scene. She even choked up a little bit and had to pause briefly to get through the scene, but it made the scene that much more real and riveting. She was also quite emotional in a later scene where she admits to Tom that she loves Joe.
Yvonne really put her heart into this performance. Tony Shalhoub also seemed extra emotional and it must have been so hard for the cast to get through the show. It was really a beautiful production.
Overall, this was just an amazing, amazing accomplishment for Yvonne. It was quite gutsy for her to audition for this role, because it’s an incredibly demanding and challenging role. For her to receive such rave reviews for this performance is a phenomenal accomplishment. She seemed much more like a Broadway veteran than someone in her debut and it’s hard to believe she hadn’t been on stage in such a long time.
I think this role will be career changing and I hope she gets some really good offers soon. She has proven with this play and with Dexter that she is way more than a pretty face. She has the respect of her peers and her performance was viewed by many important and influential people in the industry.
I’m sure Yvonne will probably get offers in the future to come back to Broadway. It will probably be a while before she returns, but she was really born for the stage. Congratulations to Yvonne on such a special and wonderful accomplishment. Nobody deserves it more than you.
Here is my top 10 Golden Boy memories:
Golden Boy was an amazing experience for Yvonne Strahovski and her fans. There were so many memorable moments, but here are the 10 things I’ll remember the most:
10. Yvonne tweeting during intermissions. This mostly happened during previews, but it was pretty amusing.
9. Seeing Yvonne as Lorna for the first time. When the first photos were released of Yvonne on stage, it gave us a preview of what was to come.
8. Yvonne introduces the word “chookas” into our vocabularies. Australians are awesome aren’t they?
7. Yvonne gets to see snow for the first time! She seemed so genuinely excited to experience her first snowfall.
6. Celebrity sightings at the Belasco! Tom Hanks, Mandy Patinkin, Susan Sarandon, Kevin Bacon, and Kyra Sedgewick were among the many celebrities in the audience. And knowing they saw Yvonne’s performance made the news extra exciting.
5. Benjamin Bales’ Saturday Matinee Intermission Photos. How awesome were those?
4. The first preview. This was the first non official performance, but one of the biggest nights of her career.
3. Stage door photos and fan reports. Yvonne was so gracious to take the time to sign our playbills and have her picture taken with us. She is a class act.
2. Seeing Golden Boy live twice and meeting Yvonne afterwards. Words cannot describe the brilliance of her performance. Getting to talk to her briefly is a moment I will never forget.
1. The Critics Weigh in on opening night: As rave review after rave review came in, we all excitedly posted reviews on twitter, soaking in the excitement. Taking on the role of Lorna Moon would be an incredible challenge for a Broadway veteran, let alone someone in her Broadway Debut. For Yvonne to receive rave reviews from the major theatre critics is an amazing accomplishment that she should be very proud of.

Our Dexter - Surprise Motherf**ker : REVIEW
Nine weeks. Nine wonderful weeks of Yvonne. And she survived, so there’s a glimmer of hope that she’ll be in “Dexter” season eight. And, if she does resurface, Hannah & Deb have finally found that common ground Hannah sought in the last episode: Deb’s a liar & a killer too!
The scene between Dexter & Hannah when he visits her in jail may sum up their relationship best: schizophrenic. They love each other. But he killed her father & she tried to kill his sister. He provides the evidence to get her arrested, then visits her in jail and tells her how much he misses her….
